Animal Supply Co. acquires Bark to Basics

On January 4, pet food and supplies distributor Animal Supply Co. (ASC) announced it had acquired Bark to Basics a family-owned business serving independent retailers, day care centers, kennels, veterinary hospitals and groomers.

Bark to Basics was founded in 2002 by Terry Garberg, who started the business after trying to help her yellow lab Lucy. Over the years, the business grew to serve six states with warehouses in Houston and Kansas City. The two companies share the mission of improving the lives of cats and dogs with common operating values such as honesty, enthusiasm and success.

“Bark to Basics is a great addition to the ASC family, as it furthers our ability to serve our existing customers, welcome new customers and allow ASC to provide provide a key brand, Champion Petfoods, makers of Orijen and Acana dog and cat foods to the Midwest and Texas,” Animal Supply CEO Don McIntyre said in a release. “This strategic acquisition also brings additional sales resources to support our delivery of Champion to customers and continue our commitment to providing exceptional service,” McIntyre added.

Garberg, who was reportedly first approached by ASC in March 2017, said, “This is an exciting opportunity for two great companies. Bark to Basics and ASC both share an unwavering commitment to service, a passion for pets and a focus on strong relationships with both customers and vendors.”
