10,000 Pounds of Dog Food and Supplies Headed to SoCal Rescue Shelters

Tens of thousands of dogs spending the holidays in shelters throughout Southern California have a surprise in store this holiday season.

Through a partnership between national non-profit GreaterGood.org and IHeartDogs.com, a website supporting shelter dogs, 10,000 pounds of dog food, toys and supplies will be donated to shelter and rescue groups across the Los Angeles and Orange County areas.

The gifts are expected to be delivered midday on Dec.  5. Additionally, help is coming from the other side of the country in the form of Zesty Paws, manufacturer of premium pet products and supplements. The supplier is providing a special donation of supplements to help the shelter dogs stay calm in the often-stressful shelter environment.

The effort will also help spotlight local “hard to adopt” shelter dogs in an effort to assist them in finding a home for the holidays.

Local, California-based animal welfare organizations benefitting from the holiday donation include: County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control, Ace of Hearts Dog Rescue, Whiskers & Tails Foundation, Halfway To Home Inc, Brittany Foundation, Doggy Smiles Rescue, German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County, Southern California Bulldog Rescue, Santa Ana, Dalmatian Rescue of Southern California and Deaf Dog Rescue of America.
