PSC Seeking Partner in Expansion of Nationwide Recycling Program

The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) is expanding its Return to Retail recycling project, aimed at establishing a nationwide collection program for multi-layer multi-material pet food and treat packaging at pet retail locations, across the United States following a successful pilot program.

In 2020-2021, PSC pioneered the Flex Forward program, collecting more than 8,000 pounds of post-consumer pet food packaging through a Return to Retail initiative in the Pacific Northwest. The bags were subjected to 17 recycling tests and a pyrolysis partner achieved a 15 percent return rate of polyethylene with minimal contamination, surpassing expectations.

To further the program’s reach, PSC is seeking a partner to support the operations, logistics and day-to-day program management of the future Return to Retail program.
