Healthy Aging for People and Their Pets: Exploring Veterinary Medicine’s Role in Improving the Quality of Life for Beloved Companions
Aging – we’re all doing it. As human life expectancy continues to rise, with more people enjoying longer, healthier lives, our pets are following suit. With advancements in veterinary medicine, animals are living longer than ever before, enriching the lives of their owners well into their later years. In support of Healthy Aging Month (September) and Positive Aging Month (October), the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) is showcasing advancements in veterinary medicine that aim to support better quality and longer lifespans in animals. These topics will be featured in continuing education sessions at the 42nd annual Veterinary Meeting & Expo (VMX), VMX 2025, which takes place in January at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
Presented annually by the NAVC, VMX is the world’s largest and most comprehensive global veterinary education event providing nearly 1,000 hours of continuing education through cutting-edge scientific sessions and hands-on workshops for veterinary professionals. These sessions explore the latest breakthroughs in veterinary care and highlight improved treatment options, technological applications and solutions and health outcomes for animals of all ages.
“We are all getting older, but don’t we all want to age better?” said Dana Varble, DVM and NAVC Chief Veterinary Officer. “With the incredible advancements in veterinary care, we’re seeing pets live longer, more vibrant lives — just like their human counterparts. VMX 2025 will showcase the newest diagnostic testing, treatments and practical tools that help veterinary professionals support animals through all stages of life, empowering them to deliver the best care possible.”
Set to an art festival theme that celebrates the art and science of veterinary medicine and the animals at the heart of it all, VMX 2025 will feature several sessions dedicated to the topic of aging, extending the lifespan and improving the quality of life for all animals.
