Smalls Fresh Gently Cook Cat Food Portfolio Earns Sweeping Recognition from Clean Label Project®

Eight Smalls Human-Grade Recipes Earn Clean Label Project® Purity Award Following Independent Third-Party Testing; Ninth Recipe Earns Clean Label Project Certification

Smalls, the brand built for cats and the people who love them, today announced that nine recipes across its fresh human-grade gently cooked cat food portfolio have earned recognition from Clean Label Project®, following independent third-party testing of the finished products.

From the beginning, Smalls has focused exclusively on cats, developing high-protein recipes made with recognizable ingredients and designed around cats’ unique nutritional needs. As the brand continues to grow, independent testing and third-party verification provide another way for Smalls to demonstrate that commitment to cat parents and retail partners.

Eight Smalls fresh gently cooked recipes earned the Clean Label Project® Purity Award, while an additional recipe earned Clean Label Project® Certification, making Smalls one of just three brands certified, alongside BIXBI and Freshpet. The recognition spans the brand’s fresh food portfolio across multiple proteins and textures.

Clean Label Project® is a nonprofit committed to reducing environmental and industrial contaminants in food and consumer products, establishing certification standards against which products are evaluated through independent, third-party testing at an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory. Only products that meet our standards earn the designation.

Independent Testing Adds Another Layer of Transparency

Clean Label Project® evaluates finished products through independent third-party laboratory testing, testing for contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, glyphosate, phthalates, and bisphenol.

For Smalls, the recognition provides an additional independent layer of validation as the company continues to grow its portfolio and make its products increasingly accessible to cat parents through both direct-to-consumer and retail channels.

“Cat parents trust us with what they put in their cats’ bowls every day, and we take that responsibility incredibly seriously,” said Nate Kredich, COO of Smalls. “Having eight of our fresh recipes earn the Clean Label Project Purity Award is meaningful because it provides independent validation across such a broad portion of our portfolio. It also reinforces the importance of our high product standards as well as our commitment to giving cat parents greater transparency and confidence in the food they serve.”

Raising the Bar for the Modern Cat Category

Unlike evaluations based solely on ingredient lists or manufacturing processes, Clean Label Project® testing evaluates finished products as they are sold to consumers.

For Smalls, recognition across nine fresh human-grade recipes and multiple proteins and textures is particularly significant, showing the achievement isn’t limited to a single standout product but extends across the brand’s fresh food portfolio.

“Having eight recipes earn the Clean Label Project® Purity Award is a meaningful achievement and speaks to the consistency Smalls has demonstrated across its fresh food portfolio,” said Molly Hamilton, Executive Director at Clean Label Project. “When recognition extends across multiple recipes, proteins and textures, it gives consumers an additional level of confidence in a brand’s commitment to product purity beyond a single product. We’re pleased to recognize Smalls for its continued commitment to providing cat parents with greater transparency into the products they feed their pets.”

Smalls can display the applicable Clean Label Project® Certified and Purity Award seals in accordance with Clean Label Project guidelines, giving consumers an additional visual indicator of independently tested products.
