Humane Society of the US Addresses COVID-19
To help animal shelters nimbly respond to the needs of the communities they serve, the Humane Society of the US assembled a toolkit while remaining in close contact with its Shelter and Rescue Partners to share information.
The organization’s Pets for Life program, which supports pet owners in under served areas, has delivered additional supplies to senior and immobile clients and is modifying spay/neuter and veterinary appointments to maintain those valuable services within guidelines. Client visits by Pet for Life teams are shifting to phone outreach and delivery of food and medications to phone outreach and delivery of food and medications to avoid close contact for at risk clients.
The staff and volunteers at the Humane Society’s animal care centers remain committed to ensuring the animals have no gap in care. Company officials are emphasizing to the pet industry, that although the society may be on hold, their work for animals in critical need is not.
