Arizona Mobile Veterinary Practice Expands to Six Clinics

Due to high demand,Dr. Kelly’s Surgical Unit, a convenient veterinary clinic that offers specialized pet care at a fraction of the price of traditional vets, has expanded from one to six clinics. The business now serves all cities and towns in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas, specializing in affordable surgical care such as dental procedures, spays and neuters, mass and tumor removals, bladder stones and more.

“We started this mobile surgical business because we felt there was a need for affordable pet surgical care services,” said Douglas Patriquin, Co-Owner and CEO of Dr. Kelly’s Surgical Unit. “We’ve worked in clinics where they routinely charge three times what we do now. It makes us feel good to be able to provide these services to pet owners at a cost they can afford.”

Dr. Kelly’s Surgical Unit was established in 2016 by owners Dr. Kelly Patriquin, DVM and Doug Patriquin, who sought to establish a veterinary clinic that could serve more pets. Since its inception, the clinic has performed more than 100,000 affordable pet surgeries, assisted more than 150,000 clients and served more than 80 different pet rescue organizations. In terms of growth, the clinic grew by 60 percent in 2022, 50 percent in 2021 and 160 percent in the past three years. They are expecting another 60 percent growth in 2022.

With the help of nonprofits such as Arizona Pet Project, Fix Adopt Save, Pet Help, Pet Fix, AWASA and others, the organization has given back to the community by providing more than 10,000 free spay and neuter services to families in need.

Dr. Kelly’s Surgical Unit was just inducted to the Inc. 5000 list for 2022, as well as Best of the Valley by Phoenix Magazine in 2019, 2020 and 2022 and has been recognized as one of America’s fastest-growing companies. In addition, Phoenix Magazine has awarded the organization its third Readers’ Choice Award for Best Animal Clinic in 2022.

Unlike most veterinary practices, Dr. Kelly’s has six clinics: three brick-and-mortar locations in Peoria, Phoenix and Tucson and three custom-built mobile hospitals that perform surgical procedures right on board. These 30-foot-plus surgical units are highly specialized rolling hospitals outfitted with all of the medical equipment necessary to perform surgical procedures. With business partners all throughout town, their unique service menu and convenient access model enable them to serve the entire Phoenix and Tucson metro areas.

The organization also provides financial assistance and service discounts to dozens of local non-profit animal rescues, as they are vital to the community and align with their mission of helping pets. The company has long-lasting relationships with rescues like Friends for Life and Ghost Town in Mesa; local and family-owned retail businesses like Inspire Farms and multiple Pet Planet locations; dog boarding facilities like 24/7 Dogs, Doggie District, Camp Bow Wow and Preppy Pet; and small and large grooming salons.

“Rescue pets have been a part of our family from the beginning, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We also work closely with local organizations such as Arizona Pet Project and Fix Adopt Save,” said Patriquin. “These amazing groups work tirelessly to help local Arizona families afford pet care and provide options for population control at little or no cost.”
