Bomgaars Now Second Largest Farm and Ranch Retailer Behind Tractor Supply
While it was announced in October that the FTC had given clearance for Tractor Supply Company, which also owns and operates Petsense by Tractor Supply, to close on its previously announced acquisition of 81 Orscheln Farm and Home stores, the other significant development from that transaction was that Sioux City, IA-based Bomgaars Supply, Inc. also acquired 73 of the Orscheln Farm and Home locations, nearly doubling its footprint to 180 locations throughout 15 states and making it the second largest farm and ranch retailer right after Tractor Supply, according to The North Platte Telegraph.
Terms of the transaction specifically were that Tractor Supply would divest 85 locations to two buyers: Bomgaars and Buchheit Enterprises, Inc. (with 12 stores). Additionally Tractor Supply agreed to sell the Orsheln Farm and Home corporate headquarters and 330,000-square-foot distribution center in Moberly, MO to Bomgaars for approximately $10 within 15 months after the closing of the transaction.
Bomgaars reports in addition to the footprint growth, the company would also be adding 1,400 new employees.
