Darwin’s Natural Pet Products Celebrates 20th Anniversary
Darwin’s Natural Pet Products this month celebrates its 20th anniversary of providing fresh, raw dog and cat food to support happier, healthier pets. Founded in 2004 with the mission of helping pets and their owners enjoy more years of healthy companionship, the company – the first raw pet food supplier to dive into e-commerce in the United States – helped to pioneer a movement toward holistic, natural pet nutrition.
Throughout its history, Darwin’s Natural Pet Products has dedicated itself to ensuring fair and conscious sourcing of its natural raw food. Partnering only with trusted suppliers, Darwin’s created the first farm-to-table raw solution for pets across the nation.
“I’m profoundly grateful for the success we’ve seen over the years and couldn’t think of a more fulfilling life goal than to promote the health of our furry friends,” said Gary Tashjian, CEO and Founder of Darwin’s Natural Pet Products. “Everything we’ve accomplished over the years is due to our phenomenal team at Darwin’s, our partners in the pet health field and the community of thoughtful pet-focused families that we serve.”
Tashjian’s journey to founding Darwin’s began with his own dog’s health issues. After struggling to address the senior pup’s arthritis through traditional medication, Tashjian turned to holistic veterinarian advice and noticed a remarkable transformation once he transitioned to feeding freshly prepared, high-quality raw food. This revelation encouraged Tashjian to leave his career in marketing and pursue his newfound passion in holistic animal diets.
“Darwin’s mission is deeply personal to me. I discovered the power of natural, raw pet food when I made the switch for my best friend, Max – a 10-year-old Old English Sheepdog who was suffering from crippling arthritis,” said Tashjian. “After making the switch, I watched Max transform from an elderly dog with restricted movement back into his old self, full of energy. I attribute the additional five years of health that Max and I enjoyed together to that diet change.”
In the early 2000s, Tashjian was the sole member of the Darwin’s team, individually preparing the raw meat and vegetables before personally delivering orders to communities across the Northwest. Today, the Darwin’s team has served more than 300,000 families through subscription-based deliveries throughout the country.
“When I saw the benefits of raw food in my own pet’s diet firsthand, I felt compelled to share this knowledge with every pet owner I knew,” said Tashjian. “I felt a calling to help others enjoy more years of healthy companionship with their pets, just as I had with Max.”
Darwin’s Natural Pet Products served more than 100 million meals in its 20-year history and supports many philanthropic efforts, including donating food to pet shelters, supporting those who foster rescue pets and helping animals affected by the war in Ukraine.
“Most people want to give their pets the best, but they don’t necessarily have the time or background to prepare properly formulated raw meals,” Tashjian said. “My goal when I started Darwin’s was to make it easy and convenient for pet owners to feel confident that they’re helping their pets to enjoy happier and healthier lives by feeding them the food that nature intended for them to eat.”
