Independent Pet Partners Set to Sell 25% of their Stores
In what has been a whirlwind three weeks for Independent Pet Partners (IPP), the company has gone from struggling, to bankruptcy filings, to liquidation, to selling 25 percent of their stores to a variety of industry players.
At the moment, the breakdown is as follows:
- IPP plans to close nearly 100 stores, keeping open the stores under the Chuck & Don’s and Kriser’s banners in Illinois, Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Those stores will subsequently seek out a buyer at a later date as part of the bankruptcy sale process.
- The IPP banners in Texas, which had been slated for liquidation, are being purchased by the previous owners of Natural Pawz (Biff Picone and Nadine Joli-Coeur). This will account for 24 of the 25 IPP stores in Texas.
- Earthwise Pet and their Pet Pros franchisee have jumped into the fray, buying six Kriser’s locations in California and 10 Loyal Companion stores in the Northeast.
At present, the breakdown seems to imply that 66 Chuck & Don’s and Kriser’s locations will remain open to be sold. 40 other locations are being sold to industry players, thus far, leaving 57 stores to be liquidated otherwise, primarily under the Loyal Companion banner.
