Petland Discounts closes stores, files Chapter 7

On April 16, 2019 media reports claimed that Petland Discounts Inc., which has stores in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, has closed all of its stores and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. In February 2019, the pet retail chain filed notices with the labor departments of states they were operating in, informing them of a possible closure of stores. The move came after the chain’s owner Neil Padron’s death on Jan. 14, 2019.

In February 2019 Padron’s daughter Amy Eisenberg, who is the pet chain’s spokesperson, said, “The company filed a notice with the Labor Department so it would be in compliance with the state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act if the business does close, however, the family is unsure what will happen after his sudden death. Neil is the sole proprietor and the family is still trying to figure everything out.”
