PetSmart and West Paw Launch Dog Toy Recycling Program in Select Markets
70 percent of pet parents are interested in creating a positive impact on the environment through easy changes in their daily routine. Thanks to a new recycling program from PetSmart, they can now do just that, helping old pet toys avoid the landfill by being recycled into new ones.
PetSmart is the first national retailer to pilot a dog toy takeback program with West Paw, a certified B Corporation that manufactures eco-friendly, durable dog toys and pet treats in Montana. Pet parents can participate in the West Paw Join the Loop® takeback program by bringing their retired West Paw toy or other similar plastic or rubber toys, to the collection box inside their local PetSmart. The old West Paw toys, including toys of similar materials, will be fed back into the manufacturing process to make completely new, bouncy, safe toys. Other recyclable materials received will also be processed and made into something new, so they don’t end up in the landfill.
The West Paw offerings and recycling program are part of PetSmart’s efforts to expand consumer access to sustainable products and programs, bridging the gap between niche offerings and mainstream availability.
A total of 75 PetSmart stores in markets where consumer behavior is more closely aligned with recycling efforts across Oregon, Washington, California and Arizona are included in the pilot. Click here to see the full list of participating stores.
