PSC 2023 Top Performing Companies Announced
The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) has announced its new group of top performers to be highlighted at the PSC Booth #3309 at SuperZoo 2023.
The PSC’s mission is to advance business through profitable environmental and social practices. All pet industry businesses are invited into the organization, regardless of where they are in their sustainability journey. The PSC Accreditation exists for those companies who go above and beyond with their sustainability performance. They are ready to share a transparent and third-party verified assessment of their impact with their stakeholders and are committed to continuous improvement. Accredited companies align their sustainability practices with the globally recognized Sustainable Development Goals. Alignment with these goals ensures that companies are working towards outcomes that are universally recognized as optimal and can be tracked and measured for desired impact.
In order to reduce the environmental impact of their business operations, companies must:
- Understand where they are today
- Set science-based targets for reduction
- Develop strategies to achieve their targets
- Monitor their progress and re-evaluate strategies as needed
This year’s Top Performers were chosen from the high achieving pool of accredited companies that have published sustainability or CSR reports. Out of these companies, this year’s top performers are the ones with the highest baseline scores within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), showing comprehensive commitment to principles across all 17 of the SDGs focusing on topics such as human rights, labor practices, environmental management and good governance.
Baseline Module: Designed to be comprehensive and rooted in the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact as well as the Sustainable Development Goals, the Baseline Module covers cross-cutting principles across all SDGs and demonstrates a general commitment to them, focusing on topics such as human rights, labor practices, environmental management systems and good governance.
The Top Performer list includes:
DSM-Firmenich Nutritional Products & Veramaris (a joint venture)
A key area for managing sustainability for retailers and their customers is through product selection and supply chain influence. The majority of a retailer’s environmental and social impact is through what they offer on their shelves. PSC accreditation provides a lens throughout the supply chain for understanding which companies are prioritizing positive impact for pets, people and planet.
