Volume of Pet Food drops for Post
Post Holdings, a consumer-packaged goods holding company, today reported results for the first fiscal quarter ending Dec. 31, 2025.
While Post Holdings has a large diversified portfolio of consumer brands, it reported that its pet food brands dropped in volume over the quarter. Post pet food brands include Rachel Ray Nutrish, 9 Lives, Kibbles ‘n Bits, Nature’s Recipe, and Gravy Train.
According to a press release by Post, “Pet food volumes decreased 6.2%, primarily driven by distribution losses and reductions in co-manufactured and private label products.”
This distribution loss was partially due to one of its brands Nutrish which faced a class-action lawsuit in March 2025 claiming Nutrish products, labeled as “natural” and “preservative-free,” contain synthetic citric acid. As a result, many retailers reduced inventory for Nutrish products.
In other pet-related news, Post issued another press release issued on Feb. 5, 2026 announcing Greg Pearson will join the company as President and Chief Executive Officer of Post Consumer Brands, effective April 1, 2026. Pearson will succeed Nicolas Catoggio, who assumed the role of Post Holdings EVP, Chief Operating Officer in January 2026. Pearson joins Post from Compana Pet Brands, a global leader in pet care and nutrition based in St. Louis, where he has served as Chief Executive Officer since January 2023. He also had ties to Chewy.com where he oversaw brand marketing.
