Vanguard Awards: Interactive Dog Toys
Pet owners are seeking more mental enrichment for their pups. Leaders in the interactive dog toy market are ready with puzzle toys, treat dispensers, and smart solutions to combat anxiety and boredom.
Unlocking joy is at the core of West Paw’s business. Spencer Williams, Founder and CEO, said, “West Paw has been able to develop a nutrient-dense treat to fit our Toppl toys perfectly. This unlocks more play and enrichment time, while also being easy for pet parents to refill. We are proud that it’s good fun for dogs—and even better for the planet.”
West Paw is proud of how it collaborates with retail and pet parents to encourage and educate the category. Williams elaborated, “West Paw highly values education for retailers and for pet parents. We put a lot of energy into our retail partnerships to ensure our customers are well-informed on the benefits of our product and how we provide solutions for the challenges of pet parents.”
Williams is hopeful that the next generation of pet owners will appreciate the company’s commitment to eco-friendly dog toys that are manufactured in the US. “West Paw’s leadership in sustainable business practices over the last 30 years is something people look up to in a brand. We continue to lead with innovation and remain thoughtful about where and what materials we use. We are a founding member of the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) and a leader in sustainable pet manufacturing. We hope to inspire the pet leaders to come together and advance environmental efforts across the industry.”
Starmark unveiled a brand refresh at this year’s Global Pet Expo and expanded its interactive toy offering by launching Tuff Toaster and Waffle Chew. Emily Benson, Marketing Director, reported on these new products, “The Tuff Toaster features multiple internal settings to adjust the challenge and keep dogs engaged for longer. The long-lasting Waffle Chew has fillable pockets that can be stuffed with peanut butter, yogurt, or other tasty fillings.”
Benson also revealed what the company heard most from customers. “One consistent piece of feedback we receive is how durable our products are, and that they hold up extremely well for destructive, hard-chewing dogs. We’ve even had some pet owners say they’ve used the same toy with multiple generations of dogs. Other pet owners let us know our toys are their dog’s favorite go-to toy to play with, carry around, or sleep with. We love seeing the photos of happy dogs with our toys!”
She continued, “What first led us to create pet products many years ago was a concept to keep our working dogs engaged with a treat-filled toy that they couldn’t destroy. We stayed our course, and all these years later, we continue to create products that we want to use with our personal dogs and feel will improve pets’ lives.”
Brightkins is known for solving real problems for pet parents and creating products that deepen the bond between pets and their owners. Rachel Markowitz, Brand Manager—Pet Brands for Brightkins, reported on their latest product. “The launch of Kanoodle Dog Edition marked an important evolution for the Brightkins brand. By adapting the iconic brain-teasing puzzle for people into an interactive treat puzzle for dogs, we were able to combine familiar brand equity with meaningful mental enrichment. The launch resonated strongly with pet owners seeking smarter play solutions and reinforced Brightkins’ leadership in the interactive dog toy space.”
Markowitz elaborated on their purpose-driven innovation, “We focus on solving real problems for pet parents and creating products that deepen the bond between people and their pets. Our background in educational play gives us a unique lens on learning, behavior, and engagement, and we apply those principles directly to pet enrichment. That combination of intentional design and long‑term thinking is what sets us apart.”
Markowitz shared how pet owners consistently express that they love that Brightkins products feel thoughtful and well-made.
“Our interactive toys are designed to challenge dogs mentally while still being fun and accessible for everyday use. Categories like puzzle toys, treat dispensers, and enrichment-based play resonate strongly because pet parents are increasingly looking for ways to reduce boredom, encourage problem-solving, and support their pet’s overall well-being.”
